Dr. Richard
S. Wilkenfeld

After receiving his Medical Degree in 1977 from the University of Louvain in Belgium, Dr. Richard S. Wilkenfeld, M.D. completed his surgery internship and residency, and was selected Chief Surgical Resident at St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. He then completed a fellowship in Vascular Surgery under Dr. Michael DeBakey at Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston.

Dr. Wilkenfeld founded and was director of the Noninvasive Vascular Laboratory at Conroe Regional Medical Center and has served on and chaired most committees there, including Chairman of the Department of Surgery as well as an officer on the Medical Executive Committee. He has also served as Chief of Staff at Doctors Hospital, Conroe, as well as the Conroe Surgery Center, and as president of that partnership; and President of the Montgomery County Medical Society.

Awards include: Physician of the Year from the Montgomery County Cancer Society, Cattle Barons Association and the Ken Davis Award from the Conroe Family Practice Residency Program.

After learning of the health benefits associated with weight loss surgery Dr. Wilkenfeld formed Texas Gastric Bariatrics. He has undergone extensive training, including a Fellowship in Bariatric Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical School, in Dallas.

He is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Texas Association of Bariatric Surgeons, and is an Associate Clinical Professor at UT Health Science Center Houston, for the Conroe Family Practice Residency Program.
