Revision - LAP-BAND®

Even though LAP-BAND® procedures are usually highly effective, there are cases in which they simply don’t work for certain individuals. If you’re one of those unfortunate people, we can give you hope!

There are a variety of reasons why this normally successful procedure does not always work. You may want to consider LAP-BAND® Revision surgery if one of the following has occurred:

1.	Band slippage. Gradual slippage may be occurring. Or, on occasion, there can be one significant reason for the slippage which is considered a surgical emergency. By simply removing, repositioning, or replacing the band, this band slippage can be remedied. If the band must be removed, Gastric Sleeve or some other alternative weight loss surgery may be considered.
2.	Band erosion. If weight loss is not occurring after a LAP-BAND® procedure, it could be due to the band wearing a hole in the stomach, which can also lead to further health problems. If band erosion is the cause of a failed Lap Band procedure, it must be removed. Again, in this case, other weight loss surgery options can be explored, such as Gastric Sleeve.
3.	Band failure for no specific reason. Sometimes Lap Band procedures simply don’t work. This may be due to a patient not maintaining eating patterns which are necessary for LAP-BAND® success. Or they just don’t respond to this type of restrictive procedure. The good news is that Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass may be viable options.
