Hemorrhoid Surgery

With so many choices available for the treatment of hemorrhoids, surgery is only performed after all other options are explored.

Rubber Band Ligation is available for Internal Hemorrhoids and can be done in my office.

Hemorrhoids can be extremely painful and Dr. Wilkenfeld will remove them surgically when necessary, as is the case when the hemorrhoids are large and/or complicated. A hemorrhoidectomy is done under spinal or general anesthesia in an operating room. In many cases, it is an outpatient procedure and an overnight stay is not necessary.

Generally, three or more hemorrhoids are removed during surgery. However, with the newer stapled procedures the pain and discomfort following the hemorrhoidectomy are much less than the classical cutting procedure. Total recovery may be realized within two weeks.
